Overview:
A BlueSky Community team member serves within the Community program, which focuses on strategic, year-round relational ministry and directly reports to the Community Managing Director. Community team members focused on student ministry concentrate their ministry efforts on the Gigiri, Karen, or Parklands international and British-system school communities within Nairobi. This is an opportunity to influence the multinational community on a global scale through student outreach and discipleship.
The students we serve are an important part of the international community that BlueSky desires to reach. The students represent a wide variety of countries, cultures, and economic backgrounds from around the world. Having such a diverse student presence in and around Nairobi presents BlueSky with a great opportunity to share the Truth and gospel of Jesus Christ and to influence those who will one day have influence on their own countries and cultures.
BlueSky community student ministry staff ministers and serves students through various programming such as discipleship groups, spiritual retreats, as well as partnering with Camp BlueSky and BlueSky Adventures for adventure programming.
Responsibilities:
Commitment to the BlueSky Vision: Purpose, Mission, and Core Values
Serve full-time on the Community team with a strategic overlap into Adventures and Camp to further Community goals
Weekly relational ministry outreach with students at international and British-system schools, such as attending games and performances, coaching a sports team, leading an extracurricular club, and meeting one-on-one with students
Lead 2-4 weekly discipleship groups for middle and high school students
Assist fellow Community student ministry team with planning weekly youth group programming and special student ministry retreats and events
Help facilitate student ministry volunteer management for discipleship and youth group leaders
Assist Community MD with apprenticeship program and invest in the personal and spiritual growth of student ministry apprentices
Participate in member church’s youth or young adult program, through Sunday School or other predetermined partnerships approved by Community MD
Participate in weekly Community team meetings, as well as entire BlueSky Kenya staff meetings and professional and team development opportunities as set by the Country Director
Qualifications:
Minimum Bachelor’s degree
Minimum 2 years in student ministry experience through church or parachurch organization
Deep personal faith
Proven, hands-on management skills
Strong organization and communication skills
Experience engaging with international cultures
Transparent and high integrity leadership
Can identify issues and solve problems with energy, teamwork, and a positive approach
Support Raising:
All BlueSky ministry staff raise full financial support to serve. Support amount will be determined based on individual need and family situation.
